I agree. Covers play a big part in whether I pick out the book from a shelf of many other books at the store, or online. They have to appeal to you in some way so that you go on to the next step and read the summary. And don't forget the part of the cover that's over the fold. With books stacked side-by-side, their faces pressed against each other so you can't see them, the fold has to appeal too. And then there's the odd time when you take a break from reading and just stare at the cover for a while, adrift in its imagery.
